State-by-State Grilling Guide
Missouri's Grilling Guru
If the weather is decent, you'll probably find Tom Huhmann outside at his grill, cooking dinner for his family. "I grill all the time," says this Tipton, Missouri, farmer, who raises turkeys and beef cattle in the central part of the Show Me State.
Tom's wife, Amy, and their twin 4-year-old sons, Benson and Bailey, hardly can wait for Tom's dinner creations. Some of his favorites include Cajun-spiced turkey tenderloin steaks ("They taste like buffalo wings," Tom says), and juicy pork steak marinaded in maple syrup, Italian dressing and bold barbecue sauce.
Tom places strips of soaked hickory and oak on the bottom of his grill and adds fresh cloves of garlic and sliced onion on top for even more flavor.
If Tom isn't barbecuing, he's probably smoking meats on his grill - mostly turkey. For local feasts, he's also been known to deep-fat-fry a whole turkey in an enormous pot of hot cooking, which also bring this grilling guru rave reviews.
