Test Kitchen Tips:
Spice up canned baked beans by adding barbecue sauce, brown sugar or maple syrup, chopped sweet or hot peppers, or crisp-cooked bacon.
Whole watermelons can be stored in the refrigerator up to 1 week. Once it's cut, use within a few days. If you don't think your family will use a whole watermelon, many stores sell cut pieces.
To always have shredded orange or lemon peel on hand, remove the peel from the oranges and lemons before you juice them. Use a Microplane° grater (available at specialty kitchen shops) or fine shredder to remove just the colored part of the peel. The white pith underneath will add bitterness. Wrap the shredded lemon or orange peel in 1 teaspoon portions in small pieces of plastic wrap. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or in the freezer up to 3 months.
Store leftover lemonade mixture in the refrigerator and enjoy it for up to 1 week.
