Simple Smokey Barbecue Sauce
Grilled shrimp

  • Pineapple slices
  • Torn mixed salad greens
  • Your favorite salad dressing
  • Lowfat milk

Test Kitchen Tips:

To grill shrimp, buy about 1 pound large shrimp in shells (or purchase shrimp with shells removed). This will give you about 6 shrimp per serving. Peel and devein shrimp, leaving tails intact, if you like. For easy turning, thread the shrimp on skewers.

For a charcoal grill, place shrimp on the rack of an uncovered grill directly over medium coals and grill for 7 to 9 minutes or until shrimp turn opaque, turning and brushing with sauce occasionally. For a gas grill, preheat grill. Reduce heat to medium. Place shrimp on rack over heat. Cover and grill as above.

Keep the sauce that you brush onto the shrimp during grilling separate from the remaining sauce to avoid any contamination with harmful bacteria.

To save on prep time, purchase fresh pineapple already cored and peeled from the produce section of your grocery store.
